EISOA Business Meetings

The annual business meeting of the Eastern Illinois Soccer Officials Association was called to order by President David Gire at 12:30 pm. on Saturday, 11 December 1999.

Agenda:

Treasurerís report;
Election of officers;
Resignation of Assignor Greg Noel;
Discussion about assignment in the future;
Formation of a committee to evaluate the possibility of allowing high school athletic directors to recruit referees for their games;
Adjournment

The first order of business was the Treasurer=s report. The treasurer reported that the treasury is healthy and as of December 11, 1999, the balance of the Association’s checking account was $3,360.32. All the bills have been paid and the fees assessed on the EISOA assigned high school Girls and Boys soccer games in 1999 have yet to be collected.

President Gire suggested that the fees assessed on the EISOA assigned high school girls and boys soccer games in 1999 to be abated due to the abundance of money in the treasury. That suggestion was opposed by a number of members. As a compromise, the members of the Eastern Illinois Soccer Officials Association agreed to reduce the assignor and the administrative fees by 50%. The Secretary/Treasurer was instructed to reflect the reduction in the assignor and the administrative fees in the annual December invoices, but charge the members the full $15.00 annual dues.

President David Gire and Vice President Tom Condron informed the membership of their desires to step down and asked for the nominations of others for the vacant positions. Ken Sibenaller and Rod Schaefer were nominated for President and Vice President, respectively. Their nominations were approved by acclamation. Ali Moshtagh was re-elected as Secretary/ Treasurer.

Greg Noel informed the membership of the numerous problems that he encountered during his tenure as the Association’s assignor. In announcing his resignation as assignor, Greg mentioned the following as the major challenges that EISOA must address before the start of the 2000 high school soccer seasons:

There were numerous no-shows in 1999;
There are too many schools in our service area;
Recruiting has been less than adequate in the recent past;
The Association is losing some experienced referees in 2000; and
Some referees are hesitant to travel long distances.

The Executive Committee of the Association (President Sibenaller, Vice President Schaefer and Secretary/Treasurer Moshtagh) was given the charge to tackle the aforementioned problems and recommend possible solutions to the membership in the near future.
